Amanda Dawn Goldtooth (She/Her/Asdzáán)

I am currently intrigued by the profound impact of mild cognitive impairment, specifically delving into how shifts in focus processes evolve over the lifespan. My primary focus is on unraveling the intricate connection between daily emotional factors and their influence on decision-making performance.

Outside of being a graduate student, I love to spend time with friends and family on and off the Navajo reservation. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, yoga, cooking, and watching college/professional sports.

Chloe Horowitz (She/Her)

My primary areas of interest include the effects of trauma on aging across the lifespan, as well as examining factors which promote healthy aging. I am also interested in studying resilience and post-traumatic growth. I look forward to learning more from the Healthy Aging Lab about lifespan development!

In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, baking, and discovering new music.

Noah Huntington (He/Him)

My research interests involve emotion, cognition, and social psychology. Specifically, I am interested in exploring arousal and mood through music and how it can influence our emotions and cognitive abilities. I would like to explore how arousal and mood can promote or hinder healthy aging.

I am an avid music listener. I cannot go a day without listening to music. I listen to many different genres, but rock music tends to be my go-to. I am a video game enthusiast. I spend a lot of time playing video games, mostly role-playing and sports games. I am also a huge football fan, supporting my hometown team the Washington Commanders.

Sam Osinga (He/They)

My interests can be broadly categorized within LGBTQIA+ support/advocacy, public health, stress/stress management and equity in community engagement. I became interested in the Healthy Aging Lab because any given factor mentioned has a relationship with aging. Also, projects within this lab have a strong emphasis on applying research within local community centers. For me, understanding lifespan development is vital but implementing the lab's work into the community is crucial for the work to flourish. Outside of psychology, I have a background in film and photography. I spend a good amount of my time watching movies and taking photographs. I also love art, music, spending time with people I love and my cat.

I am mainly interested in studying daily emotion regulation processes in individuals with depression and other mood disorders, and how these may change across the lifespan. I have a special interest in using measurement burst methodologies to examine these questions. My thesis is examining daily emotional responsivity to daily positive events in individuals with depression and how these look across the lifespan. I believe that researching daily life using intensive repeated measurements can give an important window into how individuals process emotions on a micro scale. Dr. Cerino's healthy aging lab aligns very closely with my personal research interests, and over the course of my time in the lab I have been able to assist in projects that use intensive repeated measurement approaches to answer novel questions about daily stress processes. The lab's focus on incorporating the lifespan perspective into all aspects of our research is especially important for me as it allows us to study when and for whom the findings will be most applicable.

Outside of grad school I love to spend time with friends and family. One of my main hobbies is playing music, especially if I can do it with friends. I play a few different instruments and try my hand at writing and recording songs whenever I can find the extra time and inspiration. I also love hiking, although I don't have as much time to get out anymore.

Katherine (Kate) Fleury (She/Her)

My research interests vary across lifespan development. I am specifically interested in ways to cultivate well-being and self-kindness across the lifespan, and how this may influence healthy aging. The Healthy Aging Lab stood out to me due to the use of ecological momentary assessment and how it can identify well-being patterns as a basis for intervention. Additionally, I am interested in how adversity influences both our psychological and physiological development, and how these can both influence each other. How can we combat symptoms of adversity at a young age? How can we promote healthy aging despite this? What skills can we incorporate into our lives that enhance healthy aging and well-being? And how soon do we need to develop these skills?

Outside of school I enjoy reading, doing puzzles, discovering new music and movies, and bouldering. I love reading memoirs and essays, especially the work of David Sedaris. My favorite thing to do after watching a new movie is to look at different theories or explanations of what happened.

Ashley M. Looper (She/Her)

My research interests span across topics ranging from substance abuse rehabilitation to trauma-focused therapy. Through the Healthy Aging Lab, I have also learned to expand my interest in earlier stages of life to include the entire lifespan. Aside from the psychological components of research, I thoroughly enjoy the statistical processes related to articulating relationships between various elements of life in a succinct manner.

Outside of my education, I love art, music, cats, and anything miniature (especially miniature cats).

Yesenia Cruz-Carrillo (She/Her)

I am interested in further understanding health and well-being using a lifespan developmental lens to account for multicultural perspectives. I love to spend my time with friends and family. When possible, I enjoy being outdoors hiking and kayaking. Yesenia is now a PhD Student in Arizona State University's Psychology PhD Program.

Kyleen E. Fill (She/Her)

As an individual with a disability, I find the Healthy Aging Lab to be very important and a great way to help society understand that aging is an important and beautiful thing. I think it is important to break away from the idea that the only way to be healthy and aging is to be free from disability and sickness. I am interested in working with disabled individuals, specifically in the area of stress, anxiety, and depression management.

I love hanging out with my dog in my free time. I also just recently became obsessed with learning to snowboard!

Kyleen is now a Clinical Coordinator/Counselor at Child and Family Support Services in Flagstaff.

Claire Groves

Claire is now a PhD Student in University of Texas at San Antonio’s Psychology PhD Program.

Jayden N. Hagerman (She/Her)

I am interested in researching how perceived stressor control in working parents differs depending on their sociodemographic characteristics. I am also interested in loci of control and how it relates to attachment styles and parenting. This is primarily intriguing because I believe that how one is raised and the interactions and situations they experience early in life can impact how they will relate to themselves and others throughout life.

I became interested in the Healthy Aging Lab because I find it interesting to research how mental health affects one's lifespan development. For example, how does mental health in early adulthood affect cognitive health and quality of life as people grow older?

I enjoy being outdoors and experiencing the beautiful wildlife and peace that nature has to offer. I also love spending time with my significant other, our friends, and our families because they ground me and help me to experience the little and important moments in life. I also love to read, watch movies, and play games to destress when school and work get difficult.
