I am currently intrigued by the profound impact of mild cognitive impairment, specifically delving into how shifts in focus processes evolve over the lifespan. My primary focus is on unraveling the intricate connection between daily emotional factors and their influence on decision-making performance.
Outside of being a graduate student, I love to spend time with friends and family on and off the Navajo reservation. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, yoga, cooking, and watching college/professional sports.

My research interests revolve around understanding how animals and human interactions can be beneficial to both parties. Concerning older adults, animals can be an outlet for socialization and company that some older adults may not have otherwise. I am a huge animal lover and greatly appreciate their presence. I have seen my grandparents and other older adults who absolutely adore their own pets and discuss how much comfort animals are able to provide them. My interest in focusing upon older adults stems from my prior misunderstanding of aging as a deficit. The common perception of aging focuses on what one may lose as they grow older, instead of the sense of self, experiences, and bonds that continue to develop as one ages. I think it is important to promote the notion that healthy aging is possible and provide advocacy for older adults.

I'm really interested in learning more about cognition and aging with focus on examining the psychosocial factors related to subject cognitive complaints. I want to work in the Healthy Aging Lab because I'd like to better understand all aspects of aging, and I'd like to contribute to the community through helping with the Northern Arizona Memory Study.
When I'm not working on school, I really enjoy crocheting, spending time outdoors in the sun, and hanging out with friends.

My research interests have to do with promoting everyday cognitive wellbeing across the lifespan, but particularly with younger and older adults. The Healthy Aging Lab allows me a chance to gain further knowledge about my interests and allow me to help others towards a healthy aging lifestyle. When I’m not doing school or work, I enjoy reading, listening to music, and watching horror gaming streams.

My research interests center around the evolution of relationships across the developmental lifespan. I am curious about how interpersonal stress affects health in biopsychosocial domains, as well as the reciprocal relationship. The Healthy Aging Lab captured my interest because I believe social support and interactions are very important across the adult lifespan, primarily in late adulthood, to foster positive psychological health. During my free time, I like to read, bake, and spend time with friends. I also love theatre and film—I spend a lot of time watching both!

Katherine (Kate) Fleury (She/Her)
My research interests vary across lifespan development. I am specifically interested in ways to cultivate well-being and self-kindness across the lifespan, and how this may influence healthy aging. The Healthy Aging Lab stood out to me due to the use of ecological momentary assessment and how it can identify well-being patterns as a basis for intervention. Additionally, I am interested in how adversity influences both our psychological and physiological development, and how these can both influence each other. How can we combat symptoms of adversity at a young age? How can we promote healthy aging despite this? What skills can we incorporate into our lives that enhance healthy aging and well-being? And how soon do we need to develop these skills?
Outside of school I enjoy reading, doing puzzles, discovering new music and movies, and bouldering. I love reading memoirs and essays, especially the work of David Sedaris. My favorite thing to do after watching a new movie is to look at different theories or explanations of what happened.

I am currently interested in development across the lifespan, focusing mainly in childhood. Specifically, I want to know how adversity and environment as a child can contribute to psychological and physiological health in adulthood. Understanding these potential factors can work toward lessening the negative effects that childhood adversity can have throughout the lifespan. For these reasons, I found Dr. Cerino's Healthy Aging Lab as a good opportunity to dive further into lifespan development. More so, the lab has allowed me to further acknowledge and recognize ageism in both children and older adults.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I have also spent more time learning new recipes and reading more frequently.
